Meet the maker

Hello, my name is T.Rob. People often ask “what’s the ‘T’ stand for?” It’s Todd, actually, but the “odd” is silent. So “T.Rob”, pronounced “tee-rob”. It’s a long story I’ll tell you about over a drink, if we ever meet up at a craft fair or farmers’ market somewhere.

I’ve been working in IT Security for the last 40+ years, writing code and scripts. Although it has been extremely rewarding, the closest I can get to showing someone my the fruits of my labor is to point at an ATM and say “my code helps that thing work.”

So now I get my fun by spinning heavy chunks of wood really fast, and then pushing sharp tools into them. (Hence the protective gear!) If all goes well, the result is something you can hold in your hand and, more important, use or enjoy daily. Sometimes I give the lathe a rest and do flat work such as gift boxes, charcuterie and cutting boards, and cheese slicers.  Although I do make some things that are purely decorative, most of what comes out of the shop are usable items like bowls, pens, utensils, and platters.

It is pretty cool knowing that my code is invisibly and silently facilitating transactions in all 50 states and much of Europe. But at the end of the day it is much more satisfying to me to know that people in 16 US states (and counting!) are using my handmade crafts on a daily basis. If you are not already one of those people, it’s easy to join the club. I would love to collaborate and design something wonderful and unique with you!
